Should You Adopt or Shop for Cats? Tom Brady Weighs in on the Debate

If you've considered getting a new cat any time in the past decade, you've probably come across people debating about adopting versus shopping.

Should you buy a new cat from a breeder or adopt one from a shelter?

Both options have their own unique pros and cons.

A recent update from famed NFL quarterback Tom Brady shows his position on the subject.

Tom Brady Announces Kitten Adoption

On Wednesday, an Instagram post from Tom Brady captured the attention of cat and kitten fans everywhere.

The video from his Instagram story featured two adorable, cream and gray kittens playing with each other on a fluffy white rug.

The caption says "Vivi wins again" as Tom jokes about his 10-year-old daughter's ability to talk her dad into getting new kittens.

Tom tagged the Humane Society of Tampa Bay and reassured the no-kill animal shelter that the kittens were in good hands.

To further emphasize that the kittens are adopted, Tom jokes, "Thanks @loganryan and @coolmombreezy this is what my mornings are like now."

This refers to his former teammate, Tampa Bay Buccaneers player Logan Ryan, who runs the Ryan Animal Rescue Foundation alongside his wife.

Brady Family Spends Plenty of Time Volunteering at Shelters

Insight from Brady family friends, the Ryans, provides more details about where the kittens came from and how the Bradys got involved.

Ashley Ryan shared a post of herself, her husband, Tom, and their children on Instagram.

The Instagram post revealed that the Brady family has been volunteering at the Humane Society of Tampa Bay since August.

Ashley explains that the Bradys have been quietly volunteering without any publicity stunts for a while now.

The Bradys have been involved because animals are Vivian's main interest right now.

Ashley says, "Tom's [taken] the very thing his little girl loves the most and [turned] it into an opportunity to spend time together."

When PEOPLE magazine reached out to the animal shelter for a comment, they confirmed these reports.

Shelter spokesperson Regan Blessinger says that in the months that the Bradys have been at the shelter, it's become evident that Tom is "a great dad and a true animal lover."

Everything to Know About Tom's New Kittens

There are already quite a few public details about these famous celebrity pets.

The two kittens are Siamese mix kittens, so they have the signature pointed coloration of most Siamese.

Both kittens look incredibly similar, with pale, cream-colored bodies and dark brown noses, ears, tails, and feet.

So far, the Brady family hasn't shared the kittens' names or genders.

However, it is known that they're still very young and they're siblings who come from the same litter.

All the videos Tom has posted show them wrestling, chasing, and pouncing on each other, so the Brady household is probably very busy with rambunctious kittens right now.

The kittens first came to the Bradys' attention through their work at the animal shelter.

It turns out that Vivian was able to work with the very young kittens who lost their mothers.

As she bottle-fed the new litter, she fell in love with the little Siamese-mix family.

Like all other kittens from the Humane Society of Tampa Bay, the Brady kittens were neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped before they went to their new family.

Are You Interested in Following in the Bradys' Footsteps?

This latest celebrity news highlights a big trend among pet owners lately.

Though some people do like to purchase specialty breeds, more and more people are turning to animal shelters to find their new animals.

Adopting instead of shopping comes with a lot of benefits.

Most animal shelters contain a variety of kittens and adult cats to choose from.

It's easy to meet a lot of cats and fall in love just like Vivian did.

With so many animals looking for good homes, there are a lot of options to choose from.

Furthermore, most shelters provide a lot of helpful services, including vaccinations and microchipping, so you can enjoy your new cat without having to schedule a lot of vet visits right away.

Ultimately, adopting kittens as the Bradys did can be a fun way to expand your family.

Though shopping for purebred cats also has plenty of advantages, animal shelters have come a long way lately.

With their huge inventory and variety of special services, they make it fun and easy to find new cats.
