5 Things You Can Do to Make Your Cat Happy

A cat will provide you and your loved ones with joy and fun. You should also give them the same things for better, happier lives. Cats experience similar emotions to humans, such as depression, boredom, and loneliness, if you do nothing about making them happy.

Fortunately, cats are easy to please if only you understand how best to do it. The furry friends will remain content and healthy if you provide them shelter, food, and entertainment. However, if you are a pet parent but don’t know how to make your kitty happy, here are five ideas you can consider:

1. Shower Your Cat with Love and Attention

Most people think cats are independent and love spending time alone. Even though they can spend time on their own, cats love getting love and attention from humans. Spend time each day with your pet, cuddling, snuggling, and playing to make them feel special and loved.

2. Make Your Home Cat-Friendly

Before adopting a cat, create an environment in your home that they will love and enjoy spending time with. Kitties require exciting things and challenges for mental and physical development. Provide your feline with enough space to climb, jump and sleep. You can get some cat shelves, cat trees, scratching posts, and other furniture that will excite them.

Have enough furniture so your cat can jump from one to the other. For example, the kitty may jump from the sofa to the cat tree, then to the shelf and other furniture. Check if your cat enjoys the furniture you choose, and get more if they don’t.

3. Provide Your Kitty with Entertainment

Your indoor cat will get bored if they have nothing to do. Felines have hunting instincts that make them enjoy exercising and adventure. You should provide an environment in your home that tackles those activities. Have lots of playthings for your cats, such as toys that allow them to fulfill their hunting interests and catnip toys.

Avail some time to play with them or provide automatic toys for the cat. Create a playground in the house where the kitty can play, climb and jump. Then, keep changing your cat’s toys with new ones from time to time to prevent them from getting bored with playing with the same ones. You can hide the current ones, introduce some new ones, and keep interchanging them for more excitement. When your cat gets tired, you’ll be sure they are happy. If you create some time to play with your furry friend each day, they will remain happy and content.

4. Provide Your Cat with a Nice Scratching Area

Cats love scratching, and they use it to stretch and relax their bodies as they sharpen their claws. However, felines have different scratching preferences. Some prefer to scratch vertically, others horizontally, while others can use both.

Find out what your cat likes and provide them with a scratching post that will suit their needs. If you notice your cat scratching the carpet and have already provided them with a nice vertical scratching post, get them a horizontal one and see if that is what they prefer. If your cat has a horizontal scratching post but likes scratching other things instead of it, maybe they love vertical scratching places. The best thing is to provide your kitty with horizontal and vertical scratching posts because they prefer both depending on their mood.

5. Place the Litter Boxes in a Convenient Location

Ensure to provide your cat with enough litter boxes and place them in the right place so they can create proper toilet habits. You should have a litter box for each kitty and an extra one. For example, if you have two cats, you should provide them with three boxes. Your cat might avoid using the box if you put it in a place they dislike.

Provide enough litter boxes and place them in a private home away from movements and noise. Consider placing them in the hallway or bathroom. If you put the box in the living area, place it in a secluded space and add a curtain for isolation. Additionally, avoid placing the litter boxes near the cat’s food bowls because they won’t enjoy using them at that point.

Just like cats provide warmth in your home, it is essential to know how to reciprocate that for their comfort and happiness. You must understand how to keep your content for a healthy and happy life. The above tips will guide you on some things you can do to ensure your cat stays away from depression, boredom, and loneliness.
